BACKGROUND
Virgin Islands businesses face threats which can disrupt their ability to do business. To date, the Virgin Islands has been impacted by disasters including hurricanes, earthquakes, floods and fires. The BVI Chamber of Commerce and Hotel Association (BVICCHA) is committed to supporting a resilient business community. Our local communities rely on local businesses to recover from emergencies. BVICCHA is a member of the Disaster Recover and Resilience sub-committee of CARICHAM. One of the key outputs of this committee was the development of a Business Continuity Plans (BCP) template. This template was developed with the support of UNDRR.
The BVICCHA is taking the lead in providing training to help business owners reduce their risk to natural disasters. In this vain, BVICCHA will hosting a two-day hands-on training and development of BCP for participants. Because BVICCHA will work directly with the businesses during the training workshop to have a completed plan after the two-days, space is very limited and provided on a first come first trained basis.
WORKSHOP BACKGROUND
Business Continuity Planning is about more than “disaster recovery.” It is about prevention of loss and preparing for disruptive incidents that may cripple an organisation's functionality or even cause permanent closures. The most common effects of disruptions are staff being unable to report to work due to travel difficulties or closures in school/childcare and business meetings being cancelled. More importantly, having a BCP in place can help businesses bounce back after a disaster has occurred.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
This practical BCP training will provide a comprehensive overview and understanding of the business continuity process by completing the BCP template launched by BVICCHA in January 2022, supported by the Department of Disaster Management.
