SUMMARY:Developing Your Business Continuity Plan - Day 1 of 2 (Cohort 1)
DESCRIPTION:BACKGROUND\n\nVirgin Islands businesses face threats which can disrupt their ability to do business.  To date\, the Virgin Islands has been impacted by disasters including hurricanes\, earthquakes\, floods and fires. The BVI Chamber of Commerce and Hotel Association (BVICCHA) is committed to supporting a resilient business community. Our local communities rely on local businesses to recover from emergencies. BVICCHA is a member of the Disaster Recover and Resilience sub-committee of CARICHAM. One of the key outputs of this committee was the development of a Business Continuity Plans (BCP) template. This template was developed with the support of UNDRR.\n\n\n\nThe BVICCHA is taking the lead in providing training to help business owners reduce their risk to natural disasters. In this vain\, BVICCHA will hosting a two-day hands-on training and development of BCP for participants. Because BVICCHA will work directly with the businesses during the training workshop to have a completed plan after the two-days\, space is very limited and provided on a first come first trained basis.\n\n\n\nWORKSHOP BACKGROUND\n\nBusiness Continuity Planning is about more than "disaster recovery." It is about prevention of loss and preparing for disruptive incidents that may cripple an organisation's functionality or even cause permanent closures. The most common effects of disruptions are staff being unable to report to work due to travel difficulties or closures in school/childcare and business meetings being cancelled. More importantly\, having a BCP in place can help businesses bounce back after a disaster has occurred.\n\n\n\nLEARNING OUTCOMES\n\nThis practical BCP training will provide a comprehensive overview and understanding of the business continuity process by completing the BCP template launched by BVICCHA in January 2022\, supported by the Department of Disaster Management.\n\n\n\nThe main objectives will be:\n\n	Identify the key components of the contingency planning process\n	Review of business processes and identify key processes and roles\n	Understand risks and contingencies that should be in place to ensure continuity of the business\n	Utilise continuity planning tools to develop a tailored Business Continuity Plans\n	Practice testing the BCP to ensure participants are prepared to invoke the plan\, recover recover from a disaster\, and enhance their plans accordingly. \n\nMATERIALS REQUIRED FOR FULL PARTICIPATION\n\n\n	Laptop\n	BCP Template\n	BCP Guide\n\nEXPECTED RESULTS\n\nAt the end of the workshop\, participants will have:\n\n	An in-depth understanding of the importance of Business Continuity Planning and the need to develop a plan for their businesses\n	A draft Business Continuity Plan\n	A Certificate of Completion in Business Continuity Planning\n\nELIGIBILITY\n\n\n	Be a registered business in the Virgin Islands.\n	Know the business and its units/processes for inclusion in the plan\n\nMETHOD OF INSTRUCTION & DELIVERY\n\nThe workshop will be conducted by the Executive Director of BVICCHA who a Certified Continuity Manager. The workshop will be interactive and provide opportunities for participants to exchange views. Participants will be required to develop a draft Business Continuity Plan during the workshop using the planning tools and guidance provided.\n\n\n\nMETHOD OF ASSESSMENT\n\nPreparation of a Draft Business Continuity Plan.\n\n\n\nTARGETED AUDIENCE\n\n\n	Vice presidents\, directors and managers of risk management\n	Any stakeholder with an interest or responsibility in protecting the organization from the effects of disruptive events.
